How to scan a document to PDF
- Start the cameraSelect Start the camera and allow your browser to use it. The video is shown in this tab and is not recorded anywhere.
- Capture the pagesLine each page up in the frame and capture it. Every capture is added to a strip you can review, so retake or remove anything that came out badly.
- Make the PDF and downloadPut the strip in the order you want, then select Make the PDF and download it.
Questions
Do I need to install an app?
No. Other sites show a QR code on the desktop and ask you to install their phone app before you can scan anything. This runs in the browser you already have, on whichever device has the camera.
Where does the photo of my document go?
Into this tab and nowhere else. The camera stream is read by the page, the frame you capture is held in memory, and the PDF is assembled on your device. Closing the tab erases all of it.
The camera will not start. What now?
Either the browser has no camera, or camera access was blocked for this site earlier. Once a browser records a block it will not ask again, so it has to be changed in the site permissions for this page. If that is not possible, photograph the pages with your normal camera app and use Image to PDF instead.
Will it be as good as a real scanner?
No, and it does not claim to be. A steady hand, even light and a flat page get close enough for a receipt, a form or a signed page. A flatbed scanner will always do better on fine print and photographs.
