How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Drop the PDF inDrop one PDF onto the box above.
- Choose the corner and the countBottom centre, bottom right, top right, and so on. Set the number to start from and the format — plain, or "Page 3 of 40".
- Stamp the numbers and downloadSelect Add numbers, then download the numbered PDF. Each number is drawn as real text, so it can be selected and searched.
Questions
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Set the first numbered page to 2 and start the count at 1, and the cover is left clean while the numbering still reads correctly.
What if a page already has a number printed on it?
The new number is drawn on top of the page. It cannot detect or replace an existing number, so choose a different corner.
Which characters are supported?
Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, including accented letters. Plain numbering uses a standard PDF font that costs nothing; wording that needs more than that embeds a subset of exactly the characters you typed. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew are refused by name before the run rather than stamped with holes in them.
Is the number selectable text?
Yes. It is drawn as real text, so it can be selected, copied and searched, not stamped as an image.
